Zionsville Orthodontist Gives Valentine’s Day Advice

Valentine’s Day — a time for couples to celebrate their luck in the field of love and a time for singles to go searching for their special someone. Do you dread Valentine’s Day and fault the holiday for reminding you of your love life’s bumps in the road? Isn’t it about time to put an end to the Valentine’s Day negativity, and go in the direction of cupid’s arrow? Absolutely! This year, Chapman Orthodontics says put aside the chocolates and glasses of wine, and set yourself to a happier standard. Put a smile on your face!

In a recent survey, it was found that men prefer women who smile more than those that look serious. When male students, aged 24 to 40 years old, were asked what attracted them most about a woman, every single one said "A woman who smiles a lot." If you smile often, men think you are friendly, approachable, and happy. Nobody wants to hang around with a gloomy person, but everyone likes to be with a happy one! Being a woman who smiles a lot also attracts men because it makes you look self-confident. Confidence in yourself automatically translates into attraction from others.

Researchers have also begun to notice that showing a happy, smiling face is considered essential to social interaction. "When someone has a big smile, it shows they’re willing to open up and expose a part of themselves," says Pamela McClain, DDS, president of the American Academy of Periodontology. Someone who is more open to interaction will be easier to get to know, and therefore easier to make a connection with.

But how can you open up and express all of these through a smile? It’s easy if you let Chapman Orthodontics help! By having a beautiful smile, you will not hesitate to flash your teeth in every available situation. It has been proven that someone who is confident in their smile will show this confidence in all other areas of life. So, gain the confidence of a great smile! A smiling, confident, and approachable look is just what you need to help get out of your Valentine’s Day rut, and Chapman Orthodontics can help you out with that!

How to Brush Your Teeth Effectively

Brushing your teeth is an important part of your oral hygiene routine. For a healthy mouth and smile Chapman Orthodontics recommends you:

Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled brush. The size and shape of your brush should fit your mouth allowing you to reach all areas easily.

Replace your toothbrush every three or four months or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush won’t do a good job of cleaning your teeth.

Chapman Orthodontics also says make sure to use ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste.

The proper brushing technique is to:

Place your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.

Gently move the brush back and forth in short (tooth-wide) strokes.

Brush the outer surfaces, the inner surfaces, and the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

To clean the inside surfaces of the front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and make several up-and-down strokes.

Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and keep your breath fresh.

Of course, brushing your teeth is only a part of a complete oral care routine. You should also make sure to:

Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner. Tooth decay-causing bacteria still linger between teeth where toothbrush bristles can’t reach. This helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line.

Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.

Although you are visiting Chapman Orthodontics, Dr. Chapman recommends that you visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams. If you have any questions or concerns, contact us in one of our locations in Brownsburg, or Plainfield.

Adult Braces for Indianapolis Patients

Chapman Orthodontics, located in Brownsburg and surrounding areas, understands that every patient has different orthodontic needs, especially adult patients. This is why Dr. Chapman provides his Brownsburg, Plainfield, Zionsville and Avon patients looking for adult braces with several orthodontic treatment options including the innovative Invisalign System. Today, many of our adult patients are choosing not to wear traditional metal braces and instead are enjoying Invisalign – a popular alternative to visible metal braces that are not bonded to the teeth.

Invisalign for Adults

Far different from conventional metal braces, the Invisalign System as this orthodontic treatment option consists of a series of clear, removable, smooth plastic aligners that gradually move teeth into the desired position. Just as the name suggests, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible which means you can improve your smile without most people even noticing that you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

If you’re an adult and would like to have your teeth straightened discreetly without having to wear visible metal braces, Invisalign is the clear choice. Many adults who have put off having their teeth straightened because they didn’t want to wear metal braces have gone ahead and improved their smiles with Invisalign.

Advantages of Invisalign

The advantages of Invisalign over traditional braces are numerous. Because the Invisalign aligners are removeble, you can take them out when you eat, brush and floss and then simply put them back in when done. This means that, throughout the treatment process, you can continue enjoying all those foods you love and maintain good oral hygiene.

Another advantage is that the soft, flexible material which the aligners are made of won’t irritate the inside of your mouth, unlike metal wires and brackets, and can provide you with a higher level of comfort. If you happen to grind your teeth, the Invisalign aligners can double as thin mouth guards that will provide your teeth with protection from excessive wear.

The Invisalign Process

When it’s been determined by Dr. Chapman that you are a candidate for Invisalign, we will use special computer software to design a plan for the movement of your teeth from their current positions into the optimal alignment. This movement will be broken down into stages. For each stage, two plastic aligners – one for your top teeth and one for the bottom will be made. You will be instructed to wear the first set of aligners for two weeks for at least 20 hours per day. You’ll then move on to the next set of aligners in the series and will continue doing so until your teeth are aligned correctly.

Invisalign Popular Choice at Chapman Orthodontics

Invisalign is a very popular option for patients at Chapman Orthodontics. Adults and teens often ask for clear braces, with Invisalign being the premier choice. Dr. Chapman, of Chapman Orthodontics, is very knowledgeable about braces and is an Invisalign provider.

Invisalign® straightens your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners. It’s virtually undetectable, which means hardly anyone will know that you’re straightening your teeth. The aligners have been generated by computer aided design to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. These aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable BPA-free plastic that won’t irritate your cheeks and gums.

At Chapman Orthodontics, we recognize that every patient has different orthodontic needs. Dr. Chapman will work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to ensure you achieve optimal results.
